Heartstopper Volume 6 is the sixth and final volume in the series, and as a huge fan of the Heartstopper universe, I knew I had to read this ASAP. When it arrived, I loved how chunky the book was and couldn’t wait to get stuck in, and I am so glad this book lived up to my expectations. While this final instalment continues to celebrate Nick and Charlie’s relationship, it also spends more time exploring Nick’s own worries and internal conflicts, which adds another layer to his character. Charlie also continued to grow, being much more confident and comfortable within himself. Nick and Charlie both learn more about who they are as individuals, especially as they experience more change in their lives.
Reaching the end was incredibly bittersweet. I’m genuinely sad that Nick and Charlie’s story have come to an end, but it also felt like the perfect place to leave them. I’ve already read This Winter and Nick and Charlie, and so I’ve read all that Oseman has on these characters, but the ending of Volume 6 was hopeful, heartfelt and stayed true to everything that has made this series so special. I also loved the playlists included at the end of the book – I’ve already saved so many new songs because of them.
As always, Alice Oseman’s storytelling felt so immersive that I flew through the book and didn’t want to put it down. This series made me fall in love with graphic novels again, as the illustrations and pacing kept me constantly invested. I’m excited that I still have more of Oseman’s books to read, including Radio Silence, Loveless, and I Was Born for This, and I can’t wait to dive into those next. I’ll also get around to watching Heartstopper Forever, the film that follows on from the Heartstopper Netflix series.
Heartstopper will always have a special place in my heart, and it will always be one of my favourite series!
