*minor spoilers ahead*
After loving Heartstopper Volume 1 and Volume 2, I couldn’t wait to get around to the rest of the series. Volume 3 is another great addition to the story as we watch Nick and Charlie’s relationship progress, as well as see how they interact with their current and new friends.
A lot of Heartstopper 3 focuses on a school trip to Paris for the boys and girls’ school, which was a fun way to have the story progress. This was also depicted in the Netflix show and so it was nice to see how much of this originated from the book. I loved how we learned more about Nick’s dad, saw the spark in romance between two teachers and Elle and Tao, and see all the characters grow and develop. Oseman has a real talent for captivating the reader through graphic novels, really making the story to come to life.
Whilst this volume was still easy to read and had a lighthearted tone, we did delve into deeper issues such as self-harm and eating disorders. Oseman approaches these topics perfectly, making them realistic but not too heavy for the audience.
As I first got interested in the Heartstopper series via the Netflix show and am reading the books after, I was excited to see that I have now caught up story wise. I am so excited to continue reading the other volumes to see where the story goes!
